In a major step towards international collaboration, Kisumu County has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the City of Gersthofen, Germany, aiming to foster joint development across multiple sectors. The agreement was formalized at Kisumu City Hall by Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili and Gersthofen Mayor Michael Wörle.

The partnership, initiated through discussions led by Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o and Mayor Wörle, outlines four key areas of cooperation:

Economic Development: Promoting investment, tourism, and job creation.

Environmental Sustainability: Supporting renewable energy and conservation efforts.

Technical and Vocational Training: Enhancing skills for Kisumu’s youth.

Municipal Services Improvement: Sharing expertise in smart city development, water safety, and urban management.

An early outcome of the partnership is a €200,000 project to solarize and refurbish water and sanitation facilities in Chulaimbo, Kisumu West.

Dr. Owili praised the collaboration as a milestone for sustainable development, while Mayor Wörle highlighted the shared commitment to long-term benefits for both communities. Plans are also underway to integrate German language training in Kisumu’s technical institutions to facilitate smoother exchanges.

The MOU sets the stage for innovation, growth, and sustainable development, strengthening Kisumu’s position as a regional hub for progress.
