Security agencies heighten operations in Kwale County

Kwale County security agencies have intensified their operations as the festive season approaches, recalling all police officers previously on leave to ensure the safety of residents and visitors. County Police Commander Ali Nuno confirmed that the heightened measures form part of a broader national strategy to curb criminal activities typically associated with the Christmas and New Year period, including theft, robbery, and other forms of disorder. Key security focus areas include public transport hubs, markets, beaches, places of worship, and entertainment venues.

Speaking at the Kwale Police Headquarters, Nuno highlighted that a multi-agency security task force has been deployed to enhance surveillance and coordination. The team comprises personnel from the Kenya Wildlife Services, National Youth Service, Coast Guard, Kenya Prisons, and the Bomb Disposal Squad. Officers will patrol both on vehicles and on foot, with some in plain clothes to blend in with the public and monitor activities discreetly. Major highways and border areas will also see intensified patrols to prevent smuggling and transnational crimes, while residents are urged to report suspicious behavior through the toll-free police hotline.

The county police chief emphasized that public cooperation is vital for maintaining law and order, urging motorists and pedestrians to adhere to traffic regulations to reduce accidents, which typically rise during this period due to congestion, speeding, and distractions. Nuno reiterated that security is a shared responsibility, assuring the public that agencies are committed to providing a safe environment for all, enabling citizens and tourists to enjoy the festive season without fear.
