Nandi County, Kenya – The government has completed the construction of 415 new classrooms for Grade 9 students in Nandi County, County Director of Education Harrison Muriuki has announced.

Speaking during the opening of three new Grade 9 classrooms at Nandi Hills Township Primary School, Muriuki confirmed that these were completed under Phase 1 and Phase 2, with more classrooms planned under Phases 3 and 4. The county currently has 576 secondary schools, and the remaining 161 will continue using existing facilities until new classrooms are built.

Muriuki highlighted the crucial role of the Constituency Development Fund in supporting classroom construction across six constituencies and thanked Eastern Produce Kenya for contributing ten Grade 9 classrooms and eight laboratories. He urged other non-state actors to invest in education by providing facilities and learning resources.

Praising the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC), Muriuki emphasized its focus on nurturing skills and talents alongside academics. CBC is the best education system for this country. It allows learners to explore their abilities in sports, music, drama, and other areas if academics are challenging, he said.

He also opened new classrooms at AIC Kosirai Primary School in Chesumei Constituency, urging parents to support children in fully embracing the CBC system. Residents welcomed the initiative, noting that it enhances teaching capacity and provides students with opportunities to develop their talents.
