The Ministry of Health (MoH) in Kenya is rapidly advancing its digital transformation agenda to improve healthcare delivery nationwide. During a media briefing, Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth emphasized that integrating technology into health services is essential for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). By digitizing operations, the Ministry aims to provide timely, efficient, and affordable medical care to all Kenyans. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging innovative solutions to address challenges in healthcare access and service delivery.

Key progress has been made under the Comprehensive and Integrated Health Information System. The Health Information Exchange now enables real-time data sharing among healthcare providers, while the Social Health Authority (SHA) Registration Portal and AfyaYangu App streamline access to health services. Additionally, e-Claims Processing accelerates payment for medical services, enhancing transparency and accountability. Digital hospital management systems are being deployed across facilities, improving patient management, workflow efficiency, and overall service quality. These technological solutions are transforming how healthcare is delivered, ensuring that both providers and patients benefit from faster, more reliable systems.

In Mombasa County, the TaifaCare System has already digitized 91% of health facilities, significantly boosting operational efficiency and healthcare financing. Acting CEO of the Digital Health Agency, Anthony Lenaiyara, confirmed that the SHA system maintains a 99.9% uptime, ensuring stable and continuous service. The Ministry encourages healthcare providers and the public to adopt digital health solutions, highlighting their critical role in strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system. By embracing these innovations, Kenya is taking concrete steps toward modernized, accessible, and high-quality healthcare for all citizens.
