Baringo County Chief Officer Accused in Land Grabbing Scandal

Baringo, 28 April 2025 – Residents of Marigat and Mogotio towns in Baringo County have raised concerns over alleged land-grabbing activities that exploit vulnerable communities, including orphans and widows.

Reports indicate that Mr. Geoffrey K. Kosgey, the County Chief Officer for Roads and Public Works, is at the center of the controversy. Locals claim he has been using his official position to identify undeveloped plots and intimidate county land officials into granting access for personal gain.

Witnesses allege that county vehicles, including one registered 30CG291A, have been used to transport building materials to the disputed lands. In one notable case, a plot in Mogotio Township, reportedly belonging to a deceased woman and her orphaned son, was developed in just two months despite pending succession processes.

People don’t want to speak out because the governor’s name is often invoked, said one local government worker on condition of anonymity. They’re worried about their jobs and safety.

Residents are calling for accountability and have vowed to resist unlawful acquisitions, highlighting concerns over corruption and misuse of public office. The matter remains under scrutiny as the community monitors developments closely.
