12 Nairobi Areas Face Temporary Water Disruption Through Saturday

Residents across 12 residential and commercial areas in Nairobi have been urged to conserve available water after a temporary supply disruption caused by a burst transmission pipeline at Gigiri.

According to a Friday statement from the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete transmission pipeline experienced a significant rupture, affecting water supply to all areas served from Kabete reservoirs.

The impacted neighborhoods include Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Upper Hill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Nairobi West, Uthiru, Karen, Kibera and Lang’ata.

Nairobi Water confirmed that repair operations are in progress, with teams from the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) and Nairobi Water working at the scene to restore normal service.

“Water supply should resume by 6am on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Nairobi Water apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks customers for their patience during these restoration efforts,” the utility stated.

During the interruption period, the company noted that water tanker services remain available for essential needs, with residents able to request assistance for priority requirements.

Nairobi Water emphasized that water quality and public health standards will be maintained throughout the restoration process.

The disruption occurs as various regions across the country are experiencing intensified rainfall conditions.

The Kenya Meteorological Department’s weather outlook for April 22 to 28 indicated isolated heavy rainfall in several areas.

“Heavy rainfall events are anticipated over certain regions of the Central Highlands (including Nairobi), Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, Southeastern Lowlands, Central and South Rift Valley, and North-eastern Kenya,” the forecast read.

Water levels in major dams have substantially increased, suggesting a more stable and sustainable water supply in the near future, despite the current situation highlighting infrastructure challenges amid the ongoing heavy rainfall.
