President’s Advisor on Women’s Rights Harriette Chiggai urged women to assume leadership in community empowerment initiatives, highlighting their essential role in social and economic advancement.
At the P.A.G Kenya Annual National Women’s Conference 2026, Chiggai noted that society, especially the youth, requires intentional guidance and mentorship in the face of increasing social difficulties.
“Today’s society, particularly concerning modern youth, needs direction. Many young individuals are succumbing to societal problems that can be resolved through appropriate mentorship,” she stated.
Chiggai stressed that women’s organizations possess the capability to launch significant community initiatives capable of improving family welfare and reinforcing community foundations.
“Women, via their collectives, can provide valuable support by establishing initiatives that preserve and enhance communities,” she added.
The five-day conference, arranged by the National Women’s Ministries of P.A.G Kenya in collaboration with the Office of the Women’s Rights Advisor, welcomed over 6,000 women from throughout the nation.
The gathering concentrated on enhancing women’s capabilities while fortifying support networks for widows and other at-risk populations.
Chiggai was joined by Principal Secretary for Children Services Carren Ageng’a, with conversations focusing on connecting women to governmental initiatives, economic prospects, and social protection resources.
Under this initiative, widows across multiple areas have been identified and brought together into organized support systems to facilitate access to enduring support and empowerment possibilities.
The conference also expressed alarm regarding the rising count of widows and widowers in Vihiga County, with attendees requesting specific measures to tackle the increasing susceptibility.
Organizers mentioned that the effort forms part of wider endeavors to ensure women, especially those in challenging circumstances, are better prepared to participate in community progress and attain sustainable livelihoods.
