A 32-year-old woman from Kiambu County has delivered quadruplets at Kenyatta National Hospital following a 12-week monitoring period for a high-risk pregnancy.

Beatrice Wanja was admitted to the hospital at 22 weeks pregnant, with medical staff immediately identifying her situation as particularly dangerous due to the risks of carrying four babies.

According to hospital reports, the healthcare team closely monitored her condition, stabilized her blood pressure, and worked to prevent life-threatening complications throughout the pregnancy.

Wanja delivered the four babies through a Caesarean section at 34 weeks.

The procedure was led by consultant obstetrician Dr. Esther Wanjiku, assisted by Dr. Josephine Njoroge, Dr. Naanyu, anesthesiologist Dr. Asher Chweya, and theater nurse Mr. Hezron Nyangeri.

Born prematurely, the babies were immediately admitted to the hospital’s Newborn Unit for specialized care under Dr. Wairimu Kimani and Principal Nursing Officer Ms. Naomi Ngatunyi.

The hospital reported the newborns weighed 1,950 grams, 1,490 grams, 1,790 grams and 1,110 grams respectively at birth.

“My deepest gratitude to everyone at Kenyatta National Hospital. They gave me and my babies a fighting chance,” Wanja stated in a message shared by the hospital.

She thanked the medical staff for protecting her family “with skill, compassion, and unwavering dedication.”

The hospital characterized the successful delivery as a demonstration of its commitment to quality maternal and newborn healthcare.
