Wajir Prepares to Host Historic 63rd Madaraka Day Celebrations

by KenyaPolls

Wajir County is finalizing arrangements to host Kenya’s 63rd Madaraka Day festivities, marking the inaugural celebration in the region since the nation’s independence. This choice aligns with the government’s strategy of distributing national holiday observances across various counties nationwide.

The focal point of the commemoration will be the newly established Wajir Stadium, designated for the principal ceremonies. Initiated in February with an investment of KSh 900 million, the development has progressed to 90% completion within a four-month construction period.

Authorities at both governmental and county levels have concluded structural evaluations to guarantee the venue’s suitability for the planned military displays and public participation.

The festivities coincide with President William Ruto’s broader development tour throughout the county, during which he will unveil and assess multiple public infrastructure initiatives.

Within Wajir South Constituency, the Head of State will officiate the inauguration of the Habaswein town power mini-grid and a last-mile electricity connectivity program designed to extend grid availability to local communities.

Road infrastructure inspections are also planned, with the President scheduled to examine ongoing road construction projects in both Habaswein and Griftu towns.

Furthermore, the newly constructed Wajir State Lodge has been completed and stands ready for the national observances, serving as the official accommodation for the executive’s regional visit.
