Kenyan driver Aakif Virani is adjusting his strategy for his first appearance at the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, as preliminary assessments showed a terrain that contrasts significantly with what he experiences in Kenya.
From Mbarara, Virani noted that the rally’s high-speed tracks have necessitated substantial changes to his vehicle configuration.
Although some sections mirror Kenya’s Sleeping Warrior and Loldia courses, most consist of extended, rapid sectionsrequiring adaptations in both tactical planning and vehicle preparation.
“This is our initial visit to Uganda and the reception is warmthe locals are friendly and enthusiastic,” he stated. “However, the stages are considerably quicker than our typical environments, which has led to major adjustments to the car.”
The Kenyan competitor, having secured a National Rally Championship victory in Nanyuki, enters the competition in excellent condition, currently occupying second place in the FIA African Rally Championship rankings, trailing Karan Patel.
This first appearance in the Pearl Rally offers both a challenge of flexibility and a chance to reduce the deficit at the championship’s summit.
Arrangements in Mbarara are progressing intensively, with teams finalizing reconnaissance and focusing on ultimate technical evaluations.
Vehicle inspection, tracker installation, and sealing processes have been successfully accomplished at Shell Makenke.
Racing activities intensify on Thursday, May 7, beginning with qualification and practice sessions in the morning, followed by the shakedown at noon.
The ceremonial opening will commence from Lake View Resort later that evening.
The competitive events will span Friday and Saturday, featuring two challenging days designed to evaluate teams’ speed and stamina.
The occasion will culminate in post-race technical inspections and an awards ceremony at Lake View Resort, marking the conclusion of what is anticipated to be an exciting Pearl Rally event.
