Land disputes and succession conflicts have led to numerous fights, injuries, and even deaths, while others exhaust significant resources in court with unending legal battles.
In Nderi village, Kikuyu constituency, Kiambu, a businessman exemplifies this situation as he spends considerable time in courts and tribunals following up on his allegedly grabbed land.
He claims someone took over his land shortly after he purchased it and later established a bar there.
Lawrence Muniu stated yesterday that he bought a piece of land subdivided into plots from a local society, but one of the plots was seized.
He reveals his efforts to reclaim it have not been successful.
He filed a case against the alleged grabber at a tribunal court, where he was ordered to vacate the premises.
“This individual has completely refused to leave my land. One questions whether laws exist in this country and why some people blatantly disregard them. I obtained an eviction order, but it proved ineffective as the grabber continues to occupy my land without concern,” Muniu said.
Muniu now raises concerns about the liquor business the grabber has reportedly started in the middle of the village.
He stated the operation was a deliberate violation of President William Ruto’s guidelines regarding bar operations and locations.
He claims the bar on his land sells illicit alcohol and other substances requiring investigation.
Last Thursday, Muniu sent a protest letter to Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi requesting action against the establishment, noting it was located within a village rather than a shopping center.
He questioned the County’s Liquor and Licensing Board regarding their approval of the bar’s operation in such an environment.
“This is a village, not a shopping center. What image are we presenting to our community, particularly our children, visitors, and nearby institutions like schools?” he wondered.
He also sent similar letters to the Kikuyu sub-county administrator, DCC Charles Laboso, and the area OCS, requesting them to close the premises.
Muniu mentioned that bar customers have been damaging his iron sheet fence, sneaking inside to relax there.
“They often leave shopping bags, empty bottles, and other dirty tissues on my land. I live elsewhere, but I’m shocked when I visit this property,” he said.
“I want the bar closed since it was illegally established on grabbed land and fails to meet operational standards. I will continue reclaiming the land until these individuals vacate,” Muniu said.
