President William Ruto has announced multiple infrastructure initiatives for Kirinyaga County as he seeks to bolster his support base in the Mt Kenya region.
The President stated that Sh15 billion has been allocated to construct 4,000 affordable housing units, with the Gichugu and Kirinyaga projects now prepared for occupancy.
He revealed a Sh200 million health sector initiative, specifying that the funds will establish a new Level 4 hospital in the area.
When I return next month to launch the hospital, I will bring the contractor with me. Additionally, a KEMRI research centre will be established in Mwea, and Sh200 million has been dedicated to constructing the Level 4 hospital in this constituency,” he stated during a State House meeting with grassroots leaders from Kirinyaga.
Regarding the Sh200 million project, accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Ruto mentioned he had invested Sh300 million in outfitting county facilities with necessary equipment.
The area has also received Sh1.5 billion for constructing 12 modern markets, with the President noting three are finished, and hostels capable of housing 4,000 university and college students are currently being built.
We have connected 19,000 households to electricity and plan to connect an additional 9,500 in the upcoming fiscal year. Furthermore, Sh6 billion has been set aside to complete road projects in the county,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru declared that her county and the broader Mount Kenya region will back President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
She emphasized that Ruto maintains considerable grassroots support despite increasing political rivalry.
If you think we are being silent out of fear, we are only giving you time. We will stand firm with President William Ruto throughout Mount Kenya, and you will be surprised by the votes the President will receive in 2027,” she stated, noting that the region would provide decisive support for the President.
The governor rejected assertions that the opposition could remove the President, contending that past elections indicate otherwise.
Waiguru cited previous electoral outcomes, pointing out that efforts to oust former presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta from office proved unsuccessful.
When Kibaki faced difficulties with the opposition, they couldn’t remove him from power, and the same applies to Uhuru. Now you see, Ruto will be the one to defeat WANTAM?” she questioned.
