Rice price variations across five East African countries revealed distinct market patterns during March and April 2026, expressed in US dollars per metric ton.

Kenya demonstrated the highest overall expenses, beginning at 1,376 dollars in March and marginally increasing to 1,382 dollars by April.

Rwanda showed a similar upward trend, with rice prices escalating from 1,323 dollars to 1,376 dollars within the same timeframe.

Uganda witnessed the most substantial price increase, surging considerably from 1,014 dollars in March to 1,142 dollars in April.

Conversely, Tanzania was the sole country experiencing a market decrease, with average prices falling from 992 dollars to 939 dollars.

South Sudan sustained the lowest prices among the surveyed nations, displaying a modest rise from 685 dollars to 702 dollars.

These contrasting regional patterns underscore diverse local supply conditions based on information from the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa.
