ODM Acting Secretary General and Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo has declared that the Orange Democratic Movement will continue pursuing the country’s top leadership position.
The ODM acting SG stated that the party is not restricting its ambitions in any future political discussions.
Omanyo emphasized that ODM’s objective remains securing the presidency, even as talks continue regarding how political partners could collaborate.
She argued that ODM should not approach negotiations from a position of weakness, maintaining that the party has every right to seek the highest office in the nation.
“We are not diminishing ourselves; we must elevate our performance. We are there for a greater purpose. We even want the president position itself. When you engage in negotiations, unexpected developments can occur,” she said during an interview at K24 TV.
The Busia Woman Representative suggested that political negotiations could yield unanticipated outcomes, including arrangements that might see the presidency transfer through mutual agreement among coalition partners.
“The President might say, ‘I have completed five years, you can have five.’ Would you refuse to accept it?” she asked.
However, she clarified that such proposals remain speculative and do not represent an official stance by the party.
She maintained that ODM would continue pursuing the highest levels of leadership while remaining receptive to discussions on how positions may be distributed among political partners.
“That was merely an idea that one or two individuals have proposed. But we will still aim for the highest level of leadership, negotiate and determine how we shall share,” she added.
On Sunday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) issued several resolutions following a rally held in Kirembe, Kisumu County on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
ODM reaffirmed its commitment to remain in the broad-based government, stating it will continue forming partnerships intended to securing political power in the future.
“We reaffirm our commitment to staying in the broad-based government and in government now and in the future, and building partnerships to capture power,” ODM stated.
The party reaffirmed unity among its supporters in the region, stating that the community remains one indivisible and united people whose engagement in political and development matters will continue to be channeled through the party.
This follows a decision by ODM Leader Oburu Odinga and Chairperson Gladys Wanga, who withdrew their candidacy for Deputy Presidency under the broad-based government and will defend their seats as Senator and Governor, respectively.
Oburu urged leaders to concentrate on service delivery, unity and grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections.
The veteran politician praised ODM Electoral Board chairperson Emily Awita, describing her as principled and resistant to bribery or political pressure.
“Even if you are my friend, even if you have money, don’t assume that money can purchase leadership. We are going to ensure there is free and fair competition,” he said.
Oburu challenged elected leaders to use the remaining one year and two months before the election to implement significant development projects for the citizens.
“Work diligently and deliver services to the people because whatever services you have provided is what you will use to campaign,” he said.
The Siaya Senator also cautioned aspirants against converting internal competition into hostility, reminding them that opponents in ODM nominations would still be crucial allies during the general election campaign.
