The Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development has initiated the second phase of compulsory classroom training under the NYOTA Project, representing a significant advancement in Kenya’s youth enterprise development strategy. Commencing on Monday, 20th April 2026, the implementation spans 454 designated locations across all 290 constituencies, providing comprehensive nationwide accessibility. Over 6,000 instructors have been deployed to conduct the workshops, demonstrating the extensive scope and objectives of the initiative. This classroom instruction builds upon a previously successful mentorship program that revealed substantial dedication to entrepreneurship among young participants. According to Ministry reports, 97 percent of recipients of the initial funding allocation participated in mentorship activities, and 99 percent of those involved in the mentoring phase have already launched their enterprises. These statistics demonstrate the impact of the mentorship component in establishing a robust framework for sustainable business development. Individuals who completed the mentorship program are now being directed to participate in the classroom training. The sessions aim to tackle deficiencies in business competencies identified during mentorship and to improve the capabilities of young business owners to expand and maintain their operations. Successful completion will make participants eligible for disbursement of the second funding installment and entry into the subsequent mentoring phase, guaranteeing ongoing support for their entrepreneurial paths. Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni, CBS, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing youth business initiatives through the NYOTA Project. She highlighted that the program serves as a fundamental element in Kenya’s economic progress by providing young individuals with practical business expertise and opportunities for success. The NYOTA Project National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement continues to reflect its guiding principle: Kuza, Imarisha, Endeleza Vijana! (Nurture, Strengthen, Advance the Youth).
