Mwikiho residents in Ruiru Constituency, Kiambu County, have gained from a significant empowerment effort led by Kiambu County Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

The empowerment initiative, which gathered hundreds of local residents, involved the distribution of diverse equipment and necessary items intended to support small businesses, empower youth and women associations, and aid vulnerable community members.

Speaking at the event, Wamuratha explained that the initiative was part of continuous efforts to enhance grassroots communities economically and socially through practical assistance programs that directly tackle the requirements of ordinary citizens.

Among the distributed items were carwash machines to assist youth-operated carwash services, market umbrellas to protect traders from severe weather, and motorbike umbrellas for boda boda riders working in the constituency. Beauty and salon businesses also obtained UV machines, salon sinks, hair dryers, and blow dryers to help expand and enhance their services.

Food vendors and small-scale entrepreneurs were also catered for, receiving smokies trolleys, chips fryers and cutters, juicers, and chafing dishes designed to strengthen food-related enterprises and increase earning possibilities for recipients.

The program also prioritized social welfare and inclusivity, with white canes given to visually impaired individuals, adult diapers supplied for vulnerable people, and blankets offered to elderly residents for warmth and comfort.

Additionally, helmets were distributed to enhance road safety among boda boda operators in the constituency.

Wamuratha restated her dedication to ensuring that empowerment programs persist in reaching grassroots communities throughout Kiambu County, stating that leaders have a duty to create opportunities that enhance living conditions and alleviate economic difficulties.

“As leaders, our focus stays on empowering citizens from the grassroots and making sure no one is excluded. We will keep collaborating closely with the people to create opportunities, support small businesses, and improve every part of Kiambu County through practical empowerment programs,” she mentioned.

Event participants welcomed the initiative, noting that the support would greatly assist them in developing their businesses and enhancing their quality of life during challenging economic periods.

The occasion also featured food distribution to all attendees, fostering a sense of solidarity and community support as leaders engaged directly with residents.

The NGAAF empowerment program is part of wider government and leadership efforts focused on advancing economic inclusion, youth empowerment, female entrepreneurship, and assistance for vulnerable groups at the community level.
