In Belgut, MP Nelson Koech stood beside local leaders as a newly finished house at Soget in Emurua Dikirr was handed over on 19 June 2026.
The gesture followed the death of Kenya Forest Service ranger Amos Kipngetich Rotich, a promise Koech had made to the ranger’s family.
Rotich was one of six people killed in the helicopter crash on 28 February 2026 near Chepkieb in Mosop, Nandi County, which also claimed the life of MP Johana Ng’eno of Emurua Dikirr.
During the ceremony, Koech presented the dwelling to Rotich’s mother, fulfilling the support package the MP had vowed after the tragedy.
The handover took place on the court of the new house beside the residential area of Soget.
In addition to the home, Koech announced he would fund the education of Rotich’s brother.
Speaking at the event, Koech noted that the project was carried out at the direction of President William Ruto, who had pledged assistance to the family during the ranger’s burial.
‘This is a tribute to a young Kenyan who served with dedication and paid the ultimate price in the line of duty,’ Koech said. ‘We made a promise to his family, and today we have fulfilled it.’
Rotich had worked as a KFS ranger and served as a bodyguard for the late MP.
Family and local officials described him as hardworking, disciplined, and deeply committed to his relatives.
At the time of his death, Rotich was the primary breadwinner and had begun building a house for his mother while supporting his siblings’ education.
The crash took place shortly after the helicopter departed from Endebes; initial investigations cited adverse weather as a possible cause. The aircraft burst into flames upon impact, killing all six on board.
Killed alongside Rotich and Ng’eno were pilot George Were, photojournalist Nick Koskey, teacher Carlos Keter, and protocol officer Wycliff Rono.
The house‑handing evoked emotional moments as relatives expressed gratitude for the government’s and well‑wishers’ solidarity during those dark days.
Rotich’s mother said the house would stand as a lasting reminder of her son’s sacrifice and the support offered in their most difficult hour.
MP David Keter and other local leaders were among those present at the event.
