Most Misused Prescription Medications in Kenya

A wastewater examination study published by NACADA on May 14, 2026, has identified the most frequently misused prescription medications across Kenya.

The findings reveal that multiple pharmaceutical products demonstrate substantial misuse patterns.

Diazepam leads with the highest proportion at 32.0%. Trihexyphenidyl follows at 24.0%, while Amitriptyline represents 20.0%.

Tramadol also shows a considerable presence, accounting for 16.0% in the analysis.

Flunitrazepam presents the lowest percentage among the identified prescription medications, at 8.0%.

Collectively, these figures offer a comprehensive overview of the prescription medication varieties detected in the wastewater examination.
