The Government has stepped up infrastructure and rural development efforts in Imenti South Constituency, highlighted by Kithure Kindiki’s high-profile development tour on Friday. During his visit to Rubiri Market, the Deputy President held a public sensitisation forum, inspected the completed Nkubu–Rubiri–Kamurita road, and evaluated progress on the rural electrification initiative designed to improve living standards in the area. Professor Kindiki commended the quality and timely completion of the 11-kilometre Nkubu–Rubiri–Kamurita road, constructed at a cost of Sh630 million, describing it as a significant achievement in enhancing transport connectivity and boosting economic development in the region. The newly surfaced road will substantially facilitate the movement of goods and people, while stimulating trade and agricultural activities for farmers and small-scale traders in South Imenti. Government officials expressed satisfaction with the quality of work on this vital road project, noting that the infrastructure would unlock economic opportunities for the region and enhance residents’ living standards. The Deputy President also announced that the Government is accelerating electricity connectivity to remaining homes and business establishments in the area through the Last Mile Connectivity Programme. During the inspection, he reviewed the Rubiri Village Last Mile Electricity Supply Project, targeting 85 households. This initiative is part of a broader Sh2.3 billion electrification programme aimed at connecting an additional 26,500 households throughout Meru County to the national power grid. According to Professor Kindiki, electricity access will be crucial in boosting local productivity, supporting small businesses, and elevating living standards for residents. Addressing residents at Rubiri Market later in the day, the Deputy President outlined additional infrastructure projects planned for the region, stating that the Government would prioritize tarmacking the Kionyo–Kanyakine–Mitunguu road and the Kieni Kia Ndege–KK Mworoga–Maraa–Kithino–Mitunguu road. He also promised enhanced support for dairy farmers by providing additional milk coolers to improve milk collection and minimize post-harvest losses. In another urban development initiative, Professor Kindiki announced that Nkubu and Mitunguu townships would receive Sh240 million for upgrading their urban road networks to enhance mobility and business operations. The development tour was attended by Isaac Mutuma, Kathuri Murungi, Shadrack Mwiti, Moses Kirima, county assembly members, local leaders, and hundreds of residents. Attending leaders welcomed the Government’s renewed focus on infrastructure development, noting that improved roads and electricity connectivity would unlock economic opportunities and accelerate growth throughout the broader Meru region.
