Property owners, business operators, and local residents along the Ruiru-Githunguri-Uplands route are being notified as authorities prepare to begin work on the 44-kilometer road project.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has called upon concerned parties to attend a public forum set for Wednesday, June 3, 2026, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., prior to the start of construction activities.
Through a statement released on Tuesday, June 2, the agency confirmed that the gathering will take place at the Deputy County Commissioner’s office in Githunguri Town as part of the necessary approvals before construction begins.
As stated by KeNHA: “We would like to inform the public that a participation forum will be conducted in Githunguri Town, along the Ruiru-Githunguri-Uplands Road. The meeting is planned for Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Deputy County Commissioner’s Compound, Githunguri Town.”
This gathering signals the official launch of the anticipated enhancement of the 44-kilometer road to bitumen quality, with an estimated cost of approximately Ksh4 billion.
Notably, the authority entrusted the contract to a Chinese firm in March 2026, which will now be responsible for implementing the road improvement project connecting various areas.
The initiative aims to transform the current roadway into a completely paved thoroughfare with enhanced surfaces, contemporary drainage infrastructure, and sidewalks in populated areas along its path.
Although this development is projected to enhance transportation and commercial opportunities in the region, the shift to construction may generate apprehension among landowners, enterprises, and street vendors utilizing the corridor.
Public forums are mandated by law for significant infrastructure initiatives and serve to collect community input while presenting the planned road layout and its possible effects on adjacent properties.
The gathering will likely tackle critical matters such as the road’s design, land acquisition protocols, and the assessment and compensation procedures for impacted individuals.
Upon completion, the B116 highway is anticipated to serve as a vital transportation artery for Kiambu County and the broader Nairobi Metropolitan Region.
By connecting the Nairobi-Thika Superhighway in Ruiru with the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway in Uplands, the route is projected to enhance connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and facilitate the movement of farm products and merchandise.
This contribution complements multiple ongoing developments, as the government secures domestic and foreign financing for these initiatives.
