A female parliamentary hopeful seeking to oust South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro encountered a hostile reaction from several locals during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) gathering in Kisii County.

The aspiring politician was addressing community members during President William Ruto’s regional visit when she openly announced her plans to contest against Osoro for the parliamentary position.

Her declaration, however, faced strong opposition from sections of the audience, who interrupted her with jeers as she presented her case.

Speaking to the President, the aspirant contended that the constituency required fresh leadership, implying that Osoro had occupied the position for an extended period.

“Mr. President, these individuals are stating that the honorable MP has occupied this seat for too long,” she stated.

Despite the interruptions from the crowd, she remained firm, asserting that there was increasing demand for the MP to pursue a different political role.

She suggested that Osoro should consider running for the Kisii senatorial seat, which would create opportunities for new leadership in the constituency.

“The public is questioning whether he could contest for the Senate since he has been in this position for too many years,” she added.

The aspirant also voiced concerns about representation, noting that the UDA party has not secured county-level positions since devolution began.

“Since devolution was introduced, we have not had a representative at the county level,” she mentioned.

She expressed confidence in her candidacy, telling the assembly that she was prepared to compete with other candidates if given the chance.

“He should allow me to compete with these other men, and I will secure the seat first thing in the morning,” she asserted.

Osoro, who is currently serving his second term as MP, was elected under the UDA banner and holds the position of Majority Party Whip in the National Assembly.
