Amboseli Airstrip Restores Operations Following Flood-Induced Suspension

by KenyaPolls

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has confirmed the restoration of full operations at Amboseli Main Airstrip within Amboseli National Park, ending a period of closure necessitated by March floods.

The aviation facility ceased operations on March 9, 2026, after substantial precipitation rendered the runway unsuitable for aircraft movements.

A comprehensive technical evaluation performed on May 7, 2026, verified that the infrastructure has adequately recovered to meet safety requirements for aircraft operations.

Subsequently, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority rescinded the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), permitting unrestricted air travel to the airstrip by airlines, pilots, and tour operators.

KWS extended appreciation to tourists, travel agencies, and hospitality providers for their understanding during the operational pause, emphasizing their dedication to safety and accessibility throughout all national parks. “The Amboseli Main Airstrip is now secure and fully functional. We value the patience and support of all parties involved during the temporary closure period,” KWS conveyed.
