Nandi County, Kenya – In a move aimed at modernizing healthcare delivery, Nandi County has officially launched the digitization of health services across all its health facilities. The initiative is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and improve patient care.

Governor Stephen Sang, speaking during the rollout at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, described the programme as a transformative milestone for the county’s healthcare sector. Through this digitization programme, we are streamlining operations, improving patient care, and laying a solid foundation for a responsive health system, he said.

Implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the initiative introduces digital tools and infrastructure to hospitals, health centres, and dispensaries. These tools will support electronic medical records, real-time data access, inventory management, and analytics for better decision-making and resource allocation.

Dr. Angeline Kirui, the County Executive Committee Member for Health, highlighted that the digitization is expected to reduce paperwork, minimize medical errors, and speed up diagnosis and treatment by providing immediate access to patient histories and lab results. It will also enhance the county’s ability to manage medical supplies, preventing stock-outs and wastage.

Health workers welcomed the initiative, noting that it will ease administrative burdens and improve workflow. Residents also expressed optimism that the system will reduce waiting times and improve service delivery at healthcare facilities.

Governor Sang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging technology to strengthen healthcare and ensure that residents of Nandi County receive quality, patient-centered services. The programme aligns with the national Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, which seeks to ensure all Kenyans have access to quality and affordable healthcare.
