Kenya’s First National Sports Interpreters for KSL-Tactile Launched

The Kenya Society for the Deaf and NOCK certified the first KSL-Tactile Interpreters on June 12, 2025—trained to communicate with deafblind athletes via hand-over-hand signing. No athlete is too isolated for sport, said lead interpreter Grace Akinyi. 8 interpreters deployed at the National Para Games. KBC featured tactile interpretation at the opening ceremony. UNESCO awarded Kenya a grant to scale training.
