Police Recover 150 Stolen Livestock After Shootout With Bandits in Samburu

Samburu, Kenya — Security officers in Samburu County have recovered 150 goats and sheep stolen during a bandit attack in Natiti Village, Baragoi Sub-Location.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the livestock were stolen on June 12, 2025, prompting officers to launch a rapid response operation. The team pursued the armed attackers, leading to a fierce gunfight before the bandits were overpowered.

All the animals were successfully recovered and handed back to their rightful owners.

In a statement, the NPS praised the officers involved, saying the service remains committed to protecting the lives and property of Kenyans.

The incident comes amid heightened operations across Kenya aimed at tackling livestock theft. On June 10, police recovered 10 cows stolen from Kowow Sub-location in Elgeyo Marakwet. The animals were traced to Tigit Village in Pokot Central, where they were returned to their owners in coordination with local administrators.

Similar operations have been reported in Narok County, where police retrieved 11 cattle after engaging suspected rustlers near Miti Mingi Bridge. Security patrols have since been intensified to curb further attacks.

The NPS has urged communities to continue collaborating with security agencies to help combat banditry and livestock rustling, which remain major threats in several regions.
