Nairobi-based agri-tech startup, Verdant Sensors, has pivoted to sports with its Smart Turf system—a network of low-cost, durable sensors buried beneath football pitches. The sensors monitor soil moisture, compaction, and root health, sending alerts to groundkeepers’ phones when conditions become conducive to injuries or poor play. Several county governments are piloting the system for public fields.
