The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) enforced a minimum 70% homegrown player rule in the Kenyan Premier League starting August 1, 2025—requiring clubs to field at least 8 Kenyan-trained players in matchday squads. Homegrown = registered before age 15 and trained 3+ years locally. The policy reversed a trend of foreign-dominated lineups: average local starters rose from 4.2 to 7.1 per match in the first month. AFC Leopards’ 17-year-old midfielder Brian Juma (academy graduate) scored 4 goals in 5 games. FKF also launched Local Legend awards for top homegrown performers. CAF commended Kenya as a beacon of sustainable football development. Clubs violating the rule face 3-point deductions.
