Murkomen Vows to Stamp Out Livestock Theft in Nyandarua

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has intensified efforts to tackle livestock theft in Nyandarua County following public concern over increasing losses. Speaking at Nyandarua County Commissioner’s office on August 20, 2025, Murkomen highlighted that the crime has evolved: thieves now slaughter animals in pens at night and sell the meat, often colluding with local butcheries.

Murkomen emphasized that suspects must go through the judicial process and urged citizens not to take the law into their own hands, referencing the burning of Ndunyu Njeru police station in Kinangop, which resulted in three deaths among alleged livestock thieves.

The CS credited the reduction in theft cases to collaboration between administrative units and residents who have cooperated with security officers. Key hotspot areas identified include Kinangop, Olkalou, and Ndaragua.

He also addressed identity theft, warning that misuse of National Identification Cards would be prosecuted under the law.
