A multi-agency security team in Marsabit County has successfully recovered 17 stolen goats in an operation that brought much-needed relief to pastoralist communities grappling with frequent livestock thefts.

According to a statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS) on October 5, 2025, the recovery effort involved officers from Laisamis Police Station, National Government Administration Officers, National Police Reservists (NPR) and local village elders.

The team tracked the stolen goats to Muguri Naarok, approximately 57 kilometres south of the police station, where they were found and seized. The animals were transported to Laisamis Police Station for identification by their rightful owner.

One suspect linked to the theft was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, October 6, 2025.

NPS commended the swift community cooperation that made the operation possible, emphasizing that public vigilance and information-sharing remain critical in combating livestock theft, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions where such crimes are widespread.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Vihiga County, police from Chavakali Station recovered 64 rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa following a raid prompted by a tip-off. A female suspect was arrested and is set to appear in court on the same date.

NPS reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against livestock theft, drug trafficking and other crimes across the country.
