Public Health Programs Receive International Support

Kenya’s public health sector is receiving substantial international backing aimed at strengthening its disease control, health systems, and universal health coverage efforts. For instance, the government unveiled the operational launch of the Kenya National Public Health Institute (KNPHI) on May 8, 2025, with support from global partners including the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In another example, a formal partnership between Kenya and the United States reaffirmed U.S. support for the country’s journey toward universal health coverage (UHC), consolidating technical and financial assistance for key national health programmes.
These international collaborations are helping Kenya align its health security, surveillance, and service delivery systems more closely with global standards. Public health officials say the support enables faster scale-up of preventive measures, improved outbreak preparedness, and better integration of care across counties.
At the same time, health-system leaders emphasise that while external partnerships are valuable, long-term sustainability depends on boosting domestic resource mobilisation, strengthening county health infrastructure, and ensuring that programmes remain resilient as funding landscapes change.
