New AgriTech Incubator Launched to Support Urban Farmers

by KenyaPolls

Nairobi County has launched a new AgriTech Incubator to support urban farmers, strengthen food security, and promote innovation in agriculture. The incubator was unveiled under the Annual Development Plan 2025/2026, reflecting the county’s commitment to modernizing farming practices and creating sustainable livelihoods in the city.
The AgriTech Incubator provides farmers with training, mentorship, access to financing, and digital platforms for smart farming solutions. It integrates technologies such as hydroponics, vertical farming, AI-powered crop monitoring, and blockchain-based supply chain certification. Nairobi County partnered with universities, private investors, and agricultural organizations to ensure that urban farmers can access affordable resources and scale their ventures.
Urban farmers welcomed the initiative, noting that it helps overcome challenges such as limited land, high input costs, and restricted market access. Analysts argue that the incubator is transformative, embedding innovation into Nairobi’s agricultural ecosystem while complementing earlier initiatives such as the Creative Economy Hub (October 14, 2025) and the SME Export Support Programs (November 20, 2025). Together, these efforts create a comprehensive framework for inclusive growth and sustainability.
Looking ahead, Nairobi County plans to expand the incubator by integrating green energy solutions, AI-driven irrigation systems, and e-commerce platforms for farm produce. Officials believe that by embedding advanced technologies into agriculture, Nairobi can accelerate job creation, attract investment, and reinforce its role as East Africa’s hub for urban farming innovation.
