Government Mobilizes Efforts to Contain Dengue Fever

by KenyaPolls

The Mombasa County Health Department has sounded a public health alert following a confirmed outbreak of dengue fever, with approximately 150 cases reported across all six sub‑counties.
Health officials say heavy rains have contributed to the crisis, creating new mosquito breeding sites in stagnant water that must be urgently addressed.
In response, the county government has ramped up its vector‑control measures, deploying teams to spearhead fogging operations, remove standing water, and promote environmental sanitation in affected areas. Residents are also being urged to take personal preventive actions: to keep their compounds clean, cover water containers, use mosquito repellent, and sleep under mosquito nets. Health authorities say surveillance has been heightened, with testing and case identification accelerated to ensure early detection and treatment of dengue cases. The Officials emphasize that community cooperation is critical: reducing mosquito breeding grounds is a shared responsibility to prevent the further spread of the disease.
