Athletics Kenya Introduces Recovery Sabbaticals for Overtrained Athletes

by KenyaPolls

Athletics Kenya launched Recovery Sabbaticals on November 1, 2025—mandatory 4–8 week breaks for athletes showing signs of overtraining (fatigue, HRV decline, mood shifts). Backed by biomechanics and psychology teams, sabbaticals include rest, therapy, and light cross-training. Rest isn’t weakness—it’s strategy, said Dr. Amina Hassan (Sports Psychologist). 27 athletes took sabbaticals in Q4 2025; 24 returned with improved performance. World Athletics is reviewing the model for global adoption.
