World’s Largest Floating Book Fair, MV Logos Hope, Docks in Mombasa for ‘Magical Kenya’ Tour

Excitement filled the air at the Port of Mombasa as the MV Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, made a grand return to Kenyan waters for its Magical Kenya cultural visit. The ship, operated by GBA Ships e.V., docked at the port to a warm welcome from local residents, students, and dignitaries who gathered to mark the opening of its two-week stay. The vessel’s visit, coordinated by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), is part of a regional tour aimed at promoting literacy, cultural exchange, and tourism across Africa’s coastal cities.

Carrying more than 5,000 titles spanning education, science, religion, and personal development, the MV Logos Hope has become a global symbol of learning and unity. The ship’s international crew, drawn from over 60 countries, expressed delight at visiting Kenya once again, noting the country’s vibrant culture and hospitality. Visitors will be able to explore the ship’s book fair, attend educational workshops, and engage in interactive cultural events organized in partnership with Mombasa County. According to KPA Managing Director William Ruto, the ship’s arrival not only enriches the local community but also reinforces Mombasa’s image as a hub for maritime tourism.

The return of MV Logos Hope marks a significant boost for the Coast’s tourism calendar, coming at a time when Kenya is ramping up efforts to diversify its cruise and cultural tourism offerings. Local traders, tour operators, and artisans have already reported increased activity at the port and Old Town areas, with thousands of visitors expected to tour the ship during its stay. County officials have also emphasized the event’s educational impact, particularly for students from local schools who will have a rare opportunity to interact with international volunteers and access affordable books.

As the Magical Kenya tour continues, the MV Logos Hope is scheduled to visit other African ports before sailing to Asia later next year. The Kenyan government has pledged continued support for similar initiatives that blend education, tourism, and global goodwill. For many residents of Mombasa, the ship’s visit is more than a maritime event—it’s a reminder of Kenya’s openness to the world and its growing reputation as a destination for knowledge and cultural exchange.
