Migori County Prepares for 5th Piny Luo Cultural Festival
Migori County is set to host the 5th Piny Luo Cultural Festival and Migori Cultural Extravaganza from December 14 to 16, 2025, celebrating Luo heritage while promoting unity, creativity, and economic growth.
Governor Ochilo Ayacko announced that preparations are underway to deliver an event highlighting Migori’s cultural diversity, with the theme: Honoring Heritage, Uniting Generations. The festival aims to bridge traditional values with modern expressions of art, entrepreneurship, and trade.
This year marks the first edition without its long-time patron, the late Raila Amolo Odinga, whose legacy will be reflected in the celebrations. The event will also provide space for other communities in Migori, including Kuria, Luhya, Kisii, and Somali, to showcase their cultural expressions.
Highlights include traditional performances, panel discussions on culture and commerce, a First Lady’s Gala Night, and a boat race at Migori’s water bodies. Key guests expected include President William Ruto, regional leaders, cultural icons, innovators, and development partners.
Governor Ayacko emphasized that the festival seeks to position Migori as a hub for culture, investment, and tourism, using cultural heritage as a tool for trade and youth empowerment.
