Makueni County Sets Ambitious Sh1.24 Billion Revenue Target for 2023/2024

Makueni County Government has projected to collect Sh1.24 billion in own-source revenue during the 2023/2024 financial year, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr announced. According to the governor, the county has already amassed Sh887.4 million and is confident of reaching the target by leveraging technology and strategic partnerships. The initiative aims to create a sustainable, efficient, and transparent revenue collection system while fostering an enabling environment for trade and investment.

Governor Mutula emphasized that technology-driven, cashless transactions have improved accountability and minimized corruption risks. Speaking at Wote Office during the launch of an Own Source Revenue (OSR) market outreach program in partnership with Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), he noted that the county’s revenue performance has steadily improved, with last year’s collection reaching an all-time high of 82 percent. The collaboration with KCB includes market visits across the county’s 30 wards, raising awareness among residents and businesses on convenient digital payment methods.

KCB officials, including Wote Branch Manager Patrick Mutuku, pledged full support to enhance revenue collection while promoting sustainable initiatives such as tree planting, with over 8,000 seedlings already planted in the county. Governor Mutula also appealed to residents to make voluntary payments and cautioned revenue clerks against harassing businesses during the process. With these measures, Makueni County is positioning itself for stronger financial management, increased citizen compliance, and continued economic growth.
