Government Engages Samburu Residents on Vision 2030 Medium Term Plan IV

Maralal, Samburu — Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary (CS) Zachariah Njeru led a public forum in Samburu County to disseminate the fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) under Kenya Vision 2030. The event, attended by national and county government officials, civil society, religious leaders, and local residents, outlined key government programs aligned with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) for 2023–2027.

Speaking at the event, CS Njeru emphasized that the government is involving residents for the first time in the MTP dissemination, ensuring they understand and monitor progress of flagship projects. Among initiatives highlighted for Samburu County were the completion of phase two of Yamo Dam, construction of small dams and water pans in Samburu North and East, and installation of ICT centers in every ward to equip youth with digital skills. The CS also emphasized that investments across BETA’s five pillars—Housing and Settlement, Agriculture, Healthcare, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), and Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy—would drive inclusive growth and economic transformation.

The public engagement also provided a platform for county leaders to interact with residents on development priorities. Samburu Deputy Governor Gabriel Lelengwesi, County Commissioner John Cheruiyot, and Economic Planning Secretary Timothy Gakuu attended the forum, encouraging the community to actively participate in tracking progress of the planned projects. The government pledged to ensure that programs such as improved water infrastructure and digital training would directly benefit residents, enhance livelihoods, and reduce the effects of recurring drought in the arid county.
