New Tourism Strategy Launched to Boost City Hospitality Sector

by KenyaPolls

Nairobi County has unveiled a new tourism strategy aimed at revitalizing the city’s hospitality sector, strengthening its appeal to both domestic and international visitors. The initiative, introduced under the Annual Development Plan 2025/2026, seeks to position Nairobi as a premier destination for culture, business, and leisure in East Africa.
The strategy focuses on modernizing hospitality infrastructure, promoting cultural heritage, expanding eco-tourism, and integrating digital platforms for bookings and marketing. Nairobi County partnered with hoteliers, travel agencies, airlines, and cultural organizations to ensure a comprehensive approach that benefits both large establishments and small businesses.
Hospitality leaders welcomed the initiative, noting that the sector had faced challenges from high operational costs and shifting consumer preferences. Analysts argue that the new tourism strategy is transformative, embedding resilience into Nairobi’s hospitality ecosystem while complementing earlier initiatives such as the Affordable Markets Upgrade (November 28, 2025) and the Logistics Park Development (December 5, 2025). Together, these efforts create a holistic framework for economic growth and global competitiveness.
Looking ahead, Nairobi County plans to integrate AI-powered tourism analytics, blockchain-based certification for hospitality services, and green tourism practices. Officials believe that by embedding advanced technologies into the hospitality sector, Nairobi can accelerate job creation, attract foreign investment, and reinforce its role as East Africa’s leading tourism and hospitality hub.
