Court Approves UK Extradition of Kenyan

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) secured pivotal court orders in the extradition case involving Kenyan national Brian Kiprop Kiplagat, who faces multiple criminal charges in the United Kingdom.

The DPP announced that the orders were granted at the Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, marking another step toward transferring Kiplagat under Kenyan law.

According to the DPP, UK authorities are requesting Kiplagat’s extradition to prosecute him on charges of murder, manslaughter, obstructing justice, and fraud through false representation.

During the hearing, the prosecution notified the court of the UK request and asked for the validation of two arrest warrants issued by the Westminster Court.

Hon. Bosibori Nyangema approved the application, endorsing the warrants and enabling the extradition process to proceed.

The DPP said the court’s ruling allows the proceedings to advance ‘in line with Kenyan law and international legal cooperation frameworks.’

The prosecution also managed to deny Kiplagat’s request for bail.

Consequently, the court ordered he remain in custody until the next hearing.

The case is slated for consideration on Monday, June 29, 2026, when further instructions on the extradition will be given.

This extradition request is part of the ongoing legal collaboration between Kenya and the UK over cross‑border criminal matters.

The DPP did not disclose further specifics about the UK charges during the session.

Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Vincent Monda led the prosecution team, supported by Victor Owiti, Magdalyne Nduati, and Brenda Nandwa.

The DPP reiterated that the court orders represent a major advance in the extradition process as Kenyan courts consider the UK’s request to surrender Kiplagat to face the charges outlined.

The matter will return to court on Monday, June 29, 2026, for additional directives.
