Kenya increases Ebola monitoring at Malaba border amid Uganda outbreak

The Kenyan Ministry of Health has enhanced Ebola preparedness and response measures at the Malaba border following confirmed cases in Uganda.
Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni confirmed during a border inspection that Kenya remains free of Ebola Virus Disease, as all 59 suspected cases in the country have tested negative.
“Kenya remains free of Ebola Virus Disease, with all 59 suspected cases tested in the country returning negative results,” she stated.

Health authorities have reinforced surveillance systems at border crossings to enable early detection of potential cases.
Laboratory testing capabilities have been expanded through facilities in Nairobi and Kisumu to facilitate swift diagnosis and response.
The Ministry has also intensified public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about prevention measures and encourage prompt reporting of suspected infections.
“We have strengthened surveillance systems, enhanced laboratory testing capacity through laboratories in Nairobi and Kisumu, and scaled up public awareness campaigns to support early detection and prevention efforts,” officials stated.
Officials also noted that quarantine preparedness has been improved to ensure safe isolation of exposed individuals and proper management of suspected cases if needed.
“We also strive to maintain adequate quarantine facilities to ensure exposed individuals can be safely isolated and any suspected cases effectively managed,” the Ministry added.
Kenyan health authorities continue to stress the importance of hygiene practices among the public, urging vigilance in light of regional health risks.
Citizens have been advised to disregard misinformation and rely only on verified updates from the Ministry of Health and official government communication channels.
These measures are part of ongoing regional coordination efforts to prevent cross-border transmission of infectious diseases, particularly at high-risk entry points like Malaba.
