During the departure ceremony at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya Deaf Basketball Federation President Christine Kirui conveyed her pride in the players and appreciation for the assistance received.

“We are very proud of this team and the dedication they have demonstrated during their preparations. I would also like to thank the government and all partners who have supported us as we prepare to represent Kenya on the international stage,” she stated.

“This represents a historic opportunity for these young athletes, and we believe they will honor the nation with their performance.”

Team captain Maureen Ouma shared the positive sentiment among the team members.

“The entire squad has thoroughly prepared for these championships. We have trained intensively and are committed to delivering our utmost effort and bringing medals back to Kenya. We understand the competition will be challenging, but we are prepared to represent our nation with honor,” she emphasized.

Head coach Mary Chepkoi commended the players’ discipline and resolve.

“It is a source of pride to witness these young athletes earning the chance to compete at this elite level. They have exhibited remarkable discipline, commitment, and perseverance throughout our training. We anticipate strong performances and valuable experience against the world’s top teams,” she remarked.

Officials, family members, and medical staff at the departure event observed the increasing popularity of deaf basketball in Kenya, highlighting inclusivity and the promising future of the sport.

They urged additional deaf athletes to pursue the sport and maintain training for upcoming competitions.

Kenya’s involvement in Poland represents a notable advancement in promoting disability-inclusive athletics and underscores the nation’s dedication to supporting athletes of all capabilities.
