The united opposition has insisted on complete transparency regarding all Ebola-related agreements, protocols, and arrangements made by the Ruto administration.
The leaders criticized the administration for prioritizing secrecy and partial information over openness on an issue of critical national significance.
A June 3, 2026 statement, signed by convenor Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, emphasized that the controversy surrounding the government’s Ebola response was self-inflicted.
The statement noted, ‘Rather than sharing information promptly, engaging with stakeholders, and calming public concerns, this Ruto administration has opted for secrecy, misleading statements, and arrogance. Consequently, Kenyans are left with numerous uncertainties about the government’s Ebola-related agreements and their impacts on health, safety, and national readiness.’
The leaders demanded immediate release of all Ebola documentation, asserting that every citizen has a right to such information.
As the statement read, ‘Kenyans deserve to understand the actions taken by their government in their behalf.’
The coalition argued that measures concerning one of the world’s most lethal diseases must meet the highest standards of openness, responsibility, and public examination.
The protection of public health was characterized as both a constitutional duty and a national security imperative.
The statement pointed to what the coalition called a fundamentally inconsistent approach in the government’s position.
The statement observed, ‘An administration that fails to properly equip hospitals, ensure medicine availability, or tackle persistent healthcare issues now asks citizens to unquestioningly accept its guarantees on matters of such critical national significance.’
In concluding their statement, the opposition leaders challenged the government’s trustworthiness and readiness.
The statement concluded, ‘Trust is essential to leadership, and transparency builds that trust. This administration has failed on both counts.’
