The 12th leg of the 2026 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Series commences this weekend at Nakuru Golf Club, where golfers will compete for prestigious titles and a portion of the Ksh 500,000 prize money at the NCBA Coronation & Bendor Trophy.

This three-day competition, taking place from Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31, has drawn over 100 top amateur golfers, with in-form Elvis Muigua entering the event fresh from his victory at the Ronald Marshall & Tobby Gibson Cup held at Njoro Country Club last weekend.

A new champion will be crowned this year as the defending champion, John Lejirma, is absent after turning professional.

Muigua will encounter tough opposition from a talented lineup featuring Adel Balala, William Odek, Uganda’s Joseph Kasozi, Elly Barno, Rwanda’s Felix Dusabe, and John Kamaisi, who currently holds second place in the 2026 KAGC rankings.

The women’s competition will include Kellie Gachaga, Mercy Nyanchama, and local player Emma Pennington.

The 2026 KAGC leaderboard remains tight, with Jay Sandhu at the top on 560.00 points. Kamaisi trails in second with 373.20 points, while Junaid Ayaz Manji occupies third place with 349.52 points. Muigua is fourth on 347.26 points, and Amos Odongo rounds out the top five with 326.29 points.

Separate from the Nakuru event, the NCBA Golf Series will proceed at the Moi Airbase Mug on Saturday, May 30, where over 80 golfers will vie for top honors and qualification spots for the season-ending Grand Finale.

At the junior level, the NCBA Faldo Junior Tour Kenya Championship will take place from Saturday, May 30 to Monday, June 1, highlighting NCBA’s ongoing commitment to developing talent at all levels of the sport.

Ahead of the weekend competitions, John Gachora expressed the bank’s dedication to establishing a clear developmental path for golfers. ‘This is another weekend with activities spanning from junior to elite amateur levels. Once again, more golfers will have the opportunity to qualify for the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale this weekend. Junior development is a fundamental component of NCBA’s sponsorship strategy,’ Gachora stated.

‘This series serves as a platform for discovering, nurturing, and celebrating young talent, and we anticipate an excellent weekend,’ he added. Qualification for the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale, set for November 27 at Karen Country Club, will be awarded to the Overall Gross Winner, Men’s Gross Winner, Lady Gross Winner, Division Two Men Winner, Division Two Lady Winner, Division Three Winner, and the top junior golfer.
