Ruto Cuts Diesel Price by Ksh10, Nairobi Pump Price Falls to Ksh222.92

President William Ruto has ordered an additional reduction in diesel prices by Ksh10 for the June-July pricing period to stabilize pump prices and support consumers.

The upcoming price cut follows a late-night discussion with public transport operators regarding recent increases in diesel and super petrol prices during the latest price review.

“I have instructed, following talks with transport sector representatives, that we will further decrease diesel prices by Ksh10 for June to July,” Ruto stated.

When the price adjustment is officially published, kerosene will cost Ksh191.38 per liter and super petrol Ksh214.25 per liter from June 15 onward.

Speaking to the media at State House in Mombasa, President Ruto guaranteed Kenyans sufficient fuel supply, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to stabilizing pump prices.

To further tackle challenges in the transport sector, the Head of State instructed the Transport Ministry to collaborate with financial institutions and banks to offer more affordable loans for matatu owners.

The Transport Ministry was also tasked with working alongside the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) to resolve issues concerning insurance claims impacting transport operators.

“There is a significant problem with transport operators, despite having insurance, having to pay expenses when incidents happen while insurance companies avoid responsibility. This is a matter we must resolve,” Ruto noted.

To ensure insurance companies comply with the directive, the President directed amendments to the Insurance Act within the next three months.

President Ruto also instructed the National Transport and Safety Authority, which operates under digital tax platforms, to establish regulations on minimum taxi fares.

At the press conference, Ruto urged Kenyans to reject division, fear, and disinformation, stressing the importance of calm as Kenyans continue to voice their opinions on national matters.

“I therefore request all Kenyans to stay calm, patient and united, let us reject division, fear and misinformation. While every citizen has the right to express their concerns, we must reject all actions that result in loss of lives, property and livelihoods,” he stated.
