Dairy Sector Boost as Nyamira Farmers Get Five Milk Coolers

by KenyaPolls

Nyamira County’s dairy industry experienced significant advancement with the launch of Phase II of the Livestock Value Chain Support Project (LVCSP).

The initiative involved distributing five milk coolers to farming collectives, aiming to enhance milk collection processes, minimize spoilage, and boost revenue for producers.

The distribution ceremony was headed by Principal Secretary for Livestock Development Jonathan Mueke and witnessed by Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Stephen Isaboke.

The event emphasized broadening the dairy supply chain and elevating living standards for agricultural workers in the region.

Each cooler, capable of storing 1,000 litres, was allocated to dairy cooperatives in Gesima, Kineni, Bonyasige, Kebirigo and Magwagwa locations.

Authorities project this intervention will assist approximately 1,500 dairy farmers through better milk preservation techniques, reduced post-harvest spoilage, and improved market accessibility.

Government officials stated the infrastructure will facilitate the collection of nearly 5,000 litres of milk daily, equivalent to approximately 1.825 million litres yearly with a projected worth of KSh 91.25 million.

Addressing attendees, leaders highlighted that agricultural infrastructure investments remain vital for boosting rural earnings, enhancing food security, and fostering sustainable economic development within farming areas.

They emphasized that enhanced storage facilities and value enhancement programs are fundamental to government strategies for modernizing the livestock industry and supporting small-scale dairy producers.

This deployment represents continuing efforts under the Livestock Value Chain Support Project to optimize efficiency throughout dairy production and distribution networks while creating new prospects for agriculturalists.

Additional attendees included West Mugirango’s Member of Parliament Stephen Mogaka, Kenya Daily Board member Josephine Omanwa, together with regional authorities, industry representatives, and farming community members.

In West Mugirango, the Kebirigo Farmers Co-operative Society from Bonyamatuta Ward numbered among the recipients.

The LVCSP stands as a key initiative under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) targeting a 30 per cent increase in household earnings by 2028, thereby elevating living standards for selected dairy farmers and pastoral communities.
