President William Ruto was bestowed with one of Kazakhstan’s most prestigious national recognitions, the Order of Dostyk, First Degree, amid his current official visit to the Central Asian country.
This esteemed decoration, alternatively named the Order of Friendship, is presented by Kazakhstan’s President to individuals who have significantly contributed to fostering global peace, diplomatic relations, and international friendships. The First Degree represents the supreme level of this distinction.
“I am deeply humbled and profoundly honoured to be granted the Order of Dostyk (Friendship), First Degree, which stands among the highest accolades bestowed by Kazakhstan’s Government,” expressed Ruto.
While receiving the honor from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Ruto emphasized that the award symbolizes the profound connection between Kenya and Kazakhstan and vowed to enhance their partnership for future generations.
“This recognition demonstrates our mutual dedication to peace, collaboration, and the enhancement of cultural exchanges across different continents,” he stated.
“Wearing this star and sash, I do so with utmost respect for the principles they represent: unity, dignity, and mutual support. I accept this tribute on behalf of Kenyan citizens, who stand alongside Kazakh people in their quest for peace and economic advancement,” he added.
Following the formal ceremony, both leaders evaluated their bilateral ties and established concrete measures to develop prospects in trade, investment, technological innovation, and regional connections. They formalized multiple bilateral agreements addressing information technology and e-government, agricultural sectors, transportation and infrastructure development, financial cooperation, tourism, climate initiatives, mining operations, and space exploration.
Ruto clarified that Kenya perceives Kazakhstan as more than a mere diplomatic ally, characterizing it as a crucial passage to Central Asia and the wider Eurasian landscape, while Kenya serves as Kazakhstan’s access point to East and Central African nations.
“Kenya considers Kazakhstan an essential strategic ally and a critical corridor to Central Asia and the broader Eurasian region. Conversely, Kenya is prepared to function as Kazakhstan’s portal to East and Central Africa, and has invited Kazakhstan to establish Nairobi as a strategic center for its continental activities, utilizing the Ports of Mombasa and Lamu as primary logistical routes to regional markets,” he mentioned.
The Kazakhstan journey forms part of an extensive itinerary that also included a visit to Azerbaijan, where Ruto continues to promote Kenya as a premier technology and innovation center in Africa, underscoring the nation’s youthful and skilled labor force and expanding possibilities in technology-driven services.
During his time in Azerbaijan, Ruto participated in the World Urban Forum and presented data regarding advancements in Kenya’s housing sector.
