Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has directed county employees to enhance service delivery while combating corruption amid intensified efforts to boost revenue collection and accelerate development initiatives.
Addressing revenue officers in a meeting, the governor acknowledged county staff for their contributions to enhanced local revenue collection, noting that Kisii County achieved 178 percent of its revenue targets last year.
‘We have established plans to further enhance performance. I urged them to cease corrupt practices and assured that compensation will be processed through the payroll system to minimize corruption,’ stated Arati.
The governor also commended the county’s chief revenue officer, the finance department, and Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo for maintaining operational continuity during his absence.
Regarding infrastructure progress, Arati noted that heavy rains had delayed road construction in several areas but assured residents that projects would accelerate as rainfall decreases.
The governor announced plans to complete road projects across nine wards, with each ward anticipated to receive at least 20 kilometers of roads equipped with culverts.
‘Conditions permitting, by month’s end we should have approximately 1,000 kilometers of roads completed countywide,’ he stated.
Additionally, Arati revealed that construction at the county’s industrial park had begun, with factories planned to generate employment opportunities for local residents.
Concurrently, the governor cautioned residents in landslide-vulnerable zones to relocate to safer areas to prevent disasters during the current rainy season.
He instructed county emergency personnel to promptly respond and assist families impacted by disasters throughout the county.
Arati mentioned his recent commitment to both county obligations and national duties as deputy party leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), involving nationwide travel to reinforce the party.
