Preparations for the 2026 Madaraka Day national celebrations in Wajir County have reached 84% completion, with the Government expressing confidence that all essential works will be finalized before the June 1st event.

Dr. Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, expressed Government satisfaction with the progress during an inspection of key facilities and ongoing works in Wajir.

Dr. Omollo indicated that most remaining work is anticipated to be substantially complete between May 20th and 25th, allowing ample time for final testing, rehearsals, and coordination activities before the celebrations.

We are satisfied with the progress achieved. Preparations currently stand at 84% and we anticipate that between the 20th and 25th of this month, most crucial works will be finished, stated the PS.

The inspection encompassed the main celebration venue, infrastructure developments, parade rehearsals, and supporting facilities being prepared to host the national event.

Rehearsals and coordination activities have commenced, including parade training with various security and ceremonial teams scheduled to participate during the event.

As part of the pre-event program, the Government will organize a thematic week from May 25th to 31st at Wagberi Primary School. The week will center on education, skills, and future, aligning with this year’s Madaraka Day theme. Preparations are also in progress at the official residence where President William Ruto will host a State luncheon for invited guests.

Dr. Omollo emphasized that hosting Madaraka Day in Wajir demonstrates the Government’s commitment to inclusive development, national integration, and the fair distribution of national events throughout the country.

Dr. Omollo also urged the public to respect the program schedule, noting that the Madaraka Day timeline has been arranged with consideration for midday prayers observed in the region.

We recommend all attendees be seated by 8:00 a.m. as the celebrations will start promptly to ensure the program flows smoothly, he stated.

The Government has invited Kenyans nationwide to join the people of Wajir in commemorating this year’s Madaraka Day.

He was accompanied by Ummi Bashir, Principal Secretary for Culture and Heritage, Governor of Wajir County H.E FCPA Ahmed Abdullahi, and officials from various ministries, departments, and agencies coordinating the celebrations.
