Condolences and tributes continue to flow following the passing of distinguished obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr. Job Masakhue Lukuru Obwaka.
The former Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors at The Nairobi Hospital passed away on Friday evening, May 1, 2026, as confirmed by his family. He was 83 years old.
Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale released a statement on behalf of the Ministry of Health expressing sorrow over the veteran doctor’s death. “On behalf of the Ministry of Health, I express profound grief following the demise of Dr. Job Obwaka at 83, a seasoned obstetrician and former Nairobi Hospital Director,” Duale stated.
Duale commended Dr. Obwaka’s lifelong commitment and leadership, noting “Dr. Obwaka dedicated his existence to progressing medical practice in Kenya, leaving an irreplaceable legacy to the medical community through his clinical expertise, leadership and mentorship of numerous generations of healthcare professionals.”
The Cabinet Secretary highlighted his substantial influence on healthcare standards and maternal and reproductive health outcomes nationwide, while offering sincere sympathies to his family, colleagues, and the broader medical community.
Wiper Patriotic Front Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka expressed being “deeply distressed” by the demise of the esteemed medical leader.
DCP party Leader Rigathi Gachagua lamented Dr. Obwaka’s passing, stating “I stand with you in mourning a man of great determination, a fair and principled citizen of our nation, and an exceptional intellect who dedicated his life to preserving human life and upholding truth.”
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) also commemorated “the life and service of Dr. Job Masakhue Lukuru Obwaka,” acknowledging his significant contributions to the medical profession.
Dr. Obwaka was recognized for his extensive years of clinical excellence, institutional leadership, and mentorship throughout Kenya’s healthcare sector.
