Bean prices in various East African nations showed mixed developments during the period from February to March 2026, indicating fluctuating market environments and supply situations.

Kenya witnessed a small decrease for yellow beans, dropping from $1,390 per metric ton in February to $1,352 in March. Meanwhile, red beans in Kenya rose from $1,100 to $1,130, demonstrating different consumer preferences for the bean types.

Tanzania experienced a decline in bean prices from $864 to $807, possibly due to enhanced availability or diminished demand factors.

Conversely, Uganda recorded a modest increase from $769 to $797, with Rwanda also seeing a slight uptick from $603 to $624.

Information gathered by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) reveals inconsistent patterns throughout the region, influenced by elements including crop yields, cross-border commerce, and regional consumption habits.

Generally, bean prices continue to be elevated, emphasizing sustained financial strain on households across East Africa.
